Polo purchase

Post by tinny_uk_75 »

Hi there. I am new to the forum and to the world of VW.

I just bought an S plate Polo 1.4cl It has 125k on the clock but the engine was changed a couple of years ago for one off an auto polo.

I paid £400 for the car which at the time was reluctant to engage 1st gear and refused point blank to select reverse. Although did have 6 mths tax and a full M.O.T. Now sorted the gear selection issue with an adjustment to the connections by the gearbox! Gears work like a dream now but I do have a few questions.

There is a noise when driving sounds like the driveshaft rubbing on something and no oil however although this happens in gear it also happens with the clutch in when driving but not out of gear clutch out or stopped clutch in or out.
Can I get intermittant wipers and how much is involved in the mod?
Can the sunroof be electrified or is it just the handle?
Where should the rear speakers be placed my thought was in the rear panels because I dont want them in the parcel shelf. The car came with a Sony 10 disc changer and head combo. Don't feel like the existing front speakers do it justice.

Thanks for any suggestions. I have a feeling I'm gonna like this forum.

welcome matey. get some pics up :)

i can't help you with the complicated stuff.

i'm sure with a bit of modding and electrical tweeting a electric sunroof can be installed.

whats up with the parcel shelf been used?

thats what its for

for intermittent wipers move the wiper stalk down one click.

i think you can get a good sound setup by replacing the standard speakers in the doorcards and dash. no point adding good speakers at the back if the front ones are no use! it would also be a lot easier than cutting new holes in your interior to put speakers in.

suggest you get a garage to take a look at your clutch noise. You can ask them to just diagnose the problem.

Welcome to the forum btw, hope you find it informative! There's quite a bit of knowledge here, both from current and past mk4 owners.

Sounds like you got a bit of a bargain with your car.

Thanks for the tips. Going to the scrapyard soon to see what they have around. I like taking their cars to bits, mistakes cost far less than making them on my own car
