laws on sun strips?

Post by JoeG07 »

Yeahhh i know its real chavy and tacky but my sun visers are really weird and springy and i can never get them in the position i want so just stuck a plain black sun strip / chav strip on my windscreen lol. It works great, but my mate said i can get points on my liscence, a fine, and fail the MOT for it. Not gonna argue with this...but.. would it be legal if you made a sun strip from dark smoke tinting film? I reckon that would look quite cool, a lot less chavy, and possibly be legal not sure. What u guys reckon?

I think its got something to do with how far done the screen it comes. If it doesn't come into the area where wipers wipe then it should be fine. Anybody else know more about this?

oit chavvy

Mine looks sexy ill have you know, and it says lemeph on it :D lol.

I am also told that if it touches the wiper blades then its illegal. making mine illegal and the possibilities of the strip to be only about 2 inches in length! So f**k the law. Ive been pulled plenty of times and nobody has said a thing. usually they just make you pull that kinda thing off anyway. They done that to ym mate with his tints :?

Saxo was s**t neway  lol

You know what if my old girl is still downstairs ill take some pics on ehr phone now and upload them.

Hold onto your horses!

Just a thought but.... shorter wiper blades  It might not help with visibility but might make it legal!

I don't think it's a wiper blades rule TBH, more a %age of the screen or something

If you drew a line up from the middle of the steering wheel, the windscreen wipers must not travel into the sunstrip by any more than 10mm, anywhere else on the screen the wipers must not travel into the strip by any more than 40mm

Well researched Mr Burton :)

Shortened wiper anyone? There's probably something about that somewhere too.

You probably could except that the wipers wipe from left to right [in car view that is]. If they didn't go all the way to the top then it would leave a bit in front of the driver which it didn't wipe. That would be a big no no.

lol oh yeh. just cover your windscreen with "rain x" and not use your wipers coz the drops just "blow away." Well. I spent a tenner on this "nano windscreen sealant" stuff and all it did was make it smeary when i turned on my wipers. never again..

200 quid? WTF mate that cost me a tenna lol.

Just go down to your local parts shop ask them if they make stickers and its just the same acryliccy type s**t they cut the things out and get a cut made to width and about a foot height. Then just line up the bottom where you want and cut the rest off from the top.

Thanks for the compliments aswell sir. Just wish the rest fo the car looked as good as the sunstrip lol.
