how do i "reset" the central locking pump?

Post by JoeG07 »

having had no central locking 4 ages finally got a new pump. the pump works when it wants to and when it dosnt. sometimes u can hear it razzing but it dosnt do anything. VW have yet again proved useless, i phoned up and they said you have to "reset" the pump because theres probably an air lock in the system, but he couldnt remember how you do it and would get back to me. sitll hasnt. any1 no how to do this?

unless im bring incredably stupid the whole central locking system relys on air pressure, thats why you can opent the doors if you blow in the pipe that connects to the pump.

so saying theres and airlock in a phnumatic system is like saying theres a fluid bubble in the brake lines.

i would check all of the air lines, disconnect the pump and blow down the lines see if the doors unlock, check all of the connections are good as an air leak will cause a temprimental system like that.

yeah i went into vw today they said the systems don't get air locks, he said its either an air leak or "some other fault." He said its probably an air leak by the solenoid for the petrol cap, or somewhere else whick will be hard 2 find. how do i fix an air leak? just wrap a bit of duct tape rnd it? (dnt laugh)

kinda its all modular so you track the leak to a pipe ( normally a split) then you goto vw and ask for that section of pipe or if you want to be a tight arse get, goto halfords and buy a metre of washer tubing and cut it to size and swap the pipes out.

check the joints aswell just put a dab of washingup liquid on it then rub it in good and you should see bubbles if its leaking ( kinda like fixing an innertube.)

good luck any more help needed just give me a shout
