Oh dear, i have cleaned my throttle body!

Post by Rmachines »

Yea, as the title says, i cleaned it! on my AEX 1.4L engine, gave it a darn good clean in and out with brake and parts cleaner, put it on, initualy it splutterd a bit when it started but i guess thats because a fair amount of parts cleaner went into the manifold. But now the idle is much higher, its arround 1500RPM, then it would drop breifly, then back up. I went for a short drive, then came back and the revs were lower and settled but still more than it used to be. then after a quick rev it went back to floating arround 1500 rpm.

now i have had this happen before when i pulled that multi plug off the throttle boddy by accident when it was running, it stalled then when i restarted the revs were high but it settled it no time. Is this normal? will it settle? For all i know its supposed to be higer lol! before it was very low, now it seems to high, but it settles a little if i leave it idling.

Leave the battery off for 45 or so mins. It will reset the ECU, so the throttle body will learn its reference position again. Happened to my mates when we did it was quite scary to begin with!!

I have heard that disconnecting the battery doesn't always work, and may need a vag-com or something connected to have the "basic settings" performed. The reason I say this, I did mine last week(cleaned the TB) and she revved away like mad. Luckily I have a vag-com cable and a licenced copy of vag-com so I was able to clear all errors. Shame you don't live near Romford, otherwise I'd say pop your car round, but you live in Cornwall

Hm, i pulled the battery and it didnt work... but today i pulled the vacuume hose off the TB that connects to the carbon canister ( i think) It reved up and sucked in, so i reconnected it.... and it was fine since that! Odd, hopfully it will stay that way lol.

Reckon it'll work on mine? Revs drop n come back up whenever or when press clutch whilst coming to a stop and sometimes stalls. Where bouts in Romford you from? I'm always roun dagenham, ilford, romford etc but never seen you around. We should get a meet together for the East or meet at SEC or Brands Hatch sometime. Theres a few nice Polos locally

Thats one lonely meet guys!!!

Sometimes down there but im closer to city E1 ends. Fed up of not going any shows/events cos they all seem 2B up north. i only manage to go Brands Hatch (Bluewater) Prept meets and the SEC cruise roun Gallions Reach/Lakeside. So want to gather a few Polo's roun Beckton. Only person I know ere is power_plant with a stripped-out 1.6. His tried to arrange it before at Beckton with no success. Seen 1 or 2 nice Polo's down my ends but never spoke to em. Hopefully thats not 2 far for you guys?

So if wana get the SE Polo's 2geva for a meet down Beckton let me know and i'll put a post up soon. Still need to get me new rims on before show it off.

Although I spend some near that end of Essex i'm still 16miles away but sure you guys wouldn't mind meating midway sometime for a meet.

I'v got a set of Zenders from one of the others on this forum and his sold me a set with the wrong CB so need an engineer to drill em bigger and I don't wanna pay for the hassle but his taking ages to get back to me.
