My Polo - Plans

Post by Jeff GTi »

well iv not posted about my gti for a while so today i decided to get the ball rolling

i got to work getting the front and rear lower bumper valances off and removed my side skirts, these are now at the bodyshop awaiting smoothing and paint, i think they will look a million times better painted than that awful textured plastic look

im also considering having my front vw badge done black too

and im desperate for a mint set of tt comps, preferably diamond turned or polished but painted will do, just cant find a really good mint set :(

im hoping then after these are done it will finish the bodywork off and make it look a little different to every other gti out there, yet still remaining very much oem+

opinions welcomed

Personally I like the contrast of the matt black bits, but then again my car's red so it needs something to dumb down the 'redness'.

Definate thumbs up for the black VW badge. Wish I could be bothered to do mine! :D

As you have the Fiesta as a daily driver, it now sounds like you are going for an all out show car with the GTI. The salty roads in winter will kill the TT Comps finish (well at least it did to mine I had on my Ibiza) so it's good that you have another daily driver.
The best thing to do is get some wanted ad's up on uk-mkivs and seatcupra.net and the other bigger VAG forums, you should soon turn up a decent set once word gets round as many people will soon start thinking about putting their winter wheels on.

How about a Carbon fibre VW badge, trying to track down the supplier. I saw a MK5 Golf with one and it looked awesome. Wasnt really shiney, from a distance it looked like a normal black VW badge, but get closer and the fibre becomes visable

just be patient with the wheels, you won't regret it!

shame you don't live nearer, I'd take you for a spin in mine to show you the ride with the 17s on it.....

With it being black, I'd keep the badge Chrome to break it up.

I think it's easy to have too much black on the black ones :D

cheers david but iv had them on this car before mate so i know how it drives, i just got in to money trouble and needed to sell them

and as for the long term durability of the finish, im considering just a really bright silver painted finish to them, still would look good and practical too

or diamond turn them and have them laquered

im liking the carbon badge and i have seen one too, but they are nearly 120 quid, and thats too much, as some scum bag will only steal it haha

may leave it chrome for now and just seeweather or not to do it later on in time

whats peoples opinions to just painted comps? i mean serious thoughts from a looks and practicallity point of view

I've seen dark grey ones before and they looked nice, but not as stunning.

mine are diamond cut and laquered. I prefer the finish to polished ones and in the sunlight they really work well.

I've now seen a couple of sets on ebay, and there was a set advertised on uk-mkivs about a few weeks ago, and a couple more sets advertised on there about a month or so ago - so they are about, but some people are asking quite a bit of money for fairly ratty wheels.

No problems at alll, but they were refurbed at Pristine Wheels who I hear are very good. The inner of the spokes are silver paint and lacquered so they're just as durable as normal wheels. The outer surface looks very robust and hasn't really been marked much.

<touch wood> I don't want to jinx my wheels!

FYI I paid 450 for mine with pretty much new BF Goodrich's on them.

I had the Monza 2s on my mk5 Golf refurbished by Pristine. They did a very good job of them considering the previous owner had kerbed them a fair bit, they came up like new.
Diamond cut with painted inner bits is definately the way to go and Pristine are one of the few places that will do this and lacquer them, most places just seem to want to powdercoat the wheels.

i get the bumper parts and the sideskirts back tomorrow i think so thats good anyway
