2001 Polo Classic 1.4 16v AUA - Heavy Clutch

Post by dan_polo_classic_6k »

Hello! :-D

We have a 2001 Polo Classic 16v (AUA) which has only done 42k from new which we have owned just over two years. The clucth pedal has always been a bit on the stiff side, but recently this has become more heavy and is really not a nice car to drive, as most modern cars seem to have a very 'feather light' clutches thesedays. The clutch itself seems to 'bite' fine.

I have heard that a common problem is that the pedal box fails on some Polo's and some people have had these replaced FOC by VW. Would this also affect the Classic saloon model (6K), and if so, what are my chances of getting this work done?

Any help/advice would be much appreciated!! :-D

Thanx

It could be the clutch cable is binding otherwise it sounds like the box will need to come off and maybe a new clutch. Maybe the release bearing is not pushing squarely, difficult to say without looking. I would try a new cable first. The reason people have new pedal boxes is because of the high tension a stiff pedal creates, I've had Sciroccos in the past where the cable has ripped through the bulkhead!
