Few question on GTI

Post by Shaun L »

Hi,

New to this forum but I currently have a Skoda Fabia and looking at a GTI. Got a few questions before I decide to buy though, any help is greatly appreciated.

1) Is there a FMIC available yet? Or does the SMIC and the Audi wheel arch vent work well enough?

2) Do Forge make a short shifter link for it yet?

3) Got parking sensors on my Fabia, will they plug in the loom? Came with the Fabia and really want to keep them :/.

4) Is there a coldside dump valve reloation kit available yet?

5) Is there another sports cat downpipe? Milltek one just throws me over my budget

6) What does a Forge actuator do?

7) Is there any dog bone mount out there? Jabba have just started making one for the Fabia that fits the desiel and petrol engines

8) I read something about a LHD rear ligh cluster somewere but cant remember were, any info?

9) I have found gloss black B pillar covers for the 9N, do these fit or is there any available for the 9N2?

10) Looking at upgrading to 312mm brakes. Do I need new calipers/carriers/disc's or will new carriers and disc's work?

11) Is there a metal sump guard out there?

12) Can a removeable towbar be fitted? Need to get my bike about

13) Anyone around Manchester with a Milltek exhaust and/or remap fancy meeting up?

Have a few mods on the Fabia atm that will swap across

Thanks for any help that is given

hi mate, i have a few of the bits your asking about, so i have answered just these questions below

1) Is there a FMIC available yet? Or does the SMIC and the Audi wheel arch vent work well enough?

yes, apr tuned make a front mount intercooler for the polo gti, priced at 2000 aus dollars, (960 £ sterling (approx)

2) Do Forge make a short shifter link for it yet?

not that i am aware of or i would have it

4) Is there a coldside dump valve reloation kit available yet?

no, only custon done jobs

5) Is there another sports cat downpipe? Milltek one just throws me over my budget

scorpion and magnex have exhausts for the car, not sure about the cat, custom company in wigan called pipewerx do high flows and custon systems, and ian is brilliant at the job he does

7) Is there any dog bone mount out there? Jabba have just started making one for the Fabia that fits the desiel and petrol engines

again, not as i know, but im told by awesome gti its the same as the fabia/ibiza mk4 one, not like on the mk4 golf gti's so the jabba one may well fit

I read something about a LHD rear ligh cluster somewere but cant remember were, any info?

fitting a lhd rear o/s light gets rid of the red part in the bottom of the light for the fog light, so looks "cleaner"

9) I have found gloss black B pillar covers for the 9N, do these fit or is there any available for the 9N2?

yes, i have them, be aware, the polo in question is a 9n3 not a 9n2, this is a european only polo with a boot

10) Looking at upgrading to 312mm brakes. Do I need new calipers/carriers/disc's or will new carriers and disc's work?

i have researched this, our calipers are fine, just need the tt/s3 carriers pads and disks, and they all fit under the std 16" monza alloys

12) Can a removeable towbar be fitted? Need to get my bike about

yes, but its a vw job as its an accessory, unless they supply and you fit

13) Anyone around Manchester with a Milltek exhaust and/or remap fancy meeting up?

im based in st helens and have apr stage 1 milltek turbo back inc downpipe and cat, green filter, forge 007p, pd160 intake
however meeting up could be tricky as iv just started a new job

and whilst it may give an insight to what a 220 hp polo performs like for you, it would be an unfair test for you as mines also had many chassis upgrades too

eibach pro street s coilovers -45/-50 mm
eibach front arb
jabbasport rear arb
poly bushes all round
forge front upper and rear upper strut braces

to name a few, so the ride is firmer than std and much much more fun

hope this helps you some

DanDiesel - Hehe yeah, just want to make sure its the right desision. Thanks for the welcome.

Jeff GTi - Wow thats most of it sorted, thanks very much for the in depth reply.

Wouldn't be to far off as I already have:

Evo coilovers
Spare VRS front ARB 22mm
Jabbasport rear arb
Seat Ibiza front strut brace

Handling is pritty good atm, cant think what it will be like without a heavy desiel lump hanging over the front.

Looking to upgrade for more power and a higher sump  found on petrol engines.

Thanks again

yeah i was gonna say the sump is quite high up mate

the lowest part on the underbody of my car is probably the jabba arb where it is shaped near the rear suspension cups

i dont have any clearence issues at all, and handling feels very balanced with the engine and chassis setup

Just to clarify some mistakes up above

1) Is there a FMIC available yet? Or does the SMIC and the Audi wheel arch vent work well enough?

yes, apr tuned make a front mount intercooler for the polo gti, priced at 2000 aus dollars, (960 £ sterling (approx)

Awesome GTI said the APR one was not availbe in the UK yet - however there is an OEM parts one that can be made to fit.

The Jabba one DOES fit, all the cras are the exact same platform

10) Looking at upgrading to 312mm brakes. Do I need new calipers/carriers/disc's or will new carriers and disc's work?

i have researched this, our calipers are fine, just need the tt/s3 carriers pads and disks, and they all fit under the std 16" monza alloys

Incorrect, the Calipers wil not wirk with the 312 carriers, you need the complete setup

12) Can a removeable towbar be fitted? Need to get my bike about

yes, but its a vw job as its an accessory, unless they supply and you fit

you can fit one, but you will need to cut the bumper. . .

Just because awesome wont get it doesnt mean you couldnt import it, although that would be exxy. Can you elaborate on the OEM parts one please.

The Mk4 Ibiza Cupra FMIC could fit - I have been looking into it for a while and nearlly confident enough to order all the bits. I'v got most the part numbers I think I need, as soon as it all arrives I'll post the results.
