just thought id show you lot what ive been up to with the boot recently...

just need to get it carpeted then theres another false floor going above the sub and amp with a nice bit of perspex so you can still see them and i can still use it as a normal boot for all my bike stuff!

o and dont worry ive cleaned 1 of my old alloys up to go in place of the nasty black steelie!!

also why would everytime i turn the ignition i get a "boom" from the subs? ive tried everythin even disconnected the altenator to stop feed back from that to see if that was the problem. also tried my mates sub and amp, but still got the noise from the sub when i turn the ignition on? anyone got any ideas why that would be?

Hi,
Firstley let me explain that I dont have a sub so have no personal knowledge...

But, I think the problem might be that the amps are receiving power before there is a signal from the HU. This means that they dont know what to do with the subs so just send a voltage to them which creates the thump. If you could find a way of powering up the amp after the HUs got power going to it it might solve the problem, but im sure someone will confirm (or tell me im talking a load of ....)

I know there is a way to stop the thump. If i remember correct its through a relay which cuts the feed when the starter motor is in motion to stop the noise. Someone will elaborate, but they do exist!!

Nice build, im gona do one in the new year, and dont worry both my 12"s thud when i turn the car on lol dont really bother me though lets me know if they are working or not

@ adam_0612 good stuff m8 what are you holding the wheel with?

its just a quick release strap, use them to fasten bikes to bike racks ect ect.

@ alexperkins yeh ive been told a supressor is the thing to use. but dont know what 1 looks like or where to get 1 from

@ Josh_polo cheers mate, yeh it wouldnt bother me if thats all they did but if i turn the radio of i can here them making anoise in time to the engine revs really annoyin lol

a suppressor shouldn't be used IIRC, as it will stop proper signals going to the sub which you actually want.

how much of a thump is it? I used to have one also, but it wasn't that loud.

Checked my car today and mine only makes the thud when i turn on my head unit while the ignition is off,it makes like two little thuds as if powering up

yes i know i shouldnt have it wired like that but i park up alot lol!

Another way you could do it, is to have the amps for the subs on a switch which you turn on manually when the radio is on

Thats an idea anyhow

@ david burton its very loud!! and it continues to make a noise constantly!!

mine youst to do that. tas got summit to do with the connection on things. orrr its your amp. what i did was just go through the whole thing again and re-wire it all lol. worked perfectly the second time :S

does it flicker if you turn your music down aswell? cus if it does then you know its a connection somewere. try altering with your amp. that might be the problem somewere.

the thumps is made by a curent going through into the amp
very comon with an splx amp as they are a low market product
which has very simple internals
the only thing to do is make sure all of your cables are not earthing out and that the remote lead is connected to the remote output from the head unit and not somthing else as the remote sensor input to an am is very sensertive and should only have the correct input

hey man i like that, tell me whats that sub like in the parcel shelf? I heard you couldnt put one there because it wouldnt support it and would just rattle around alot? Does it sound nice? Coz ive got 2 6" subs in my parcel shelf but i was thinking of swapping for a 10 or 12" but every1 was like "not in the parcel shelf!"
