New Gearbox needed

Post by The_phat_controlleruk »

I need to get a new(Recon) gearbox for my car, I don't want to pick anyone out of the yellow pages, rather use someone word of mouth. Has anyone used someone they would recommend?? The nearer to Essex/SE London the better, cheers.

I take it you are speaking from experience, if so, how much did they rush you? (if you don't mind me asking)

Cheers

I used to work for them :P

A new one is about £900 after the surcharge is retrieved. But they are remanufactured to an excellent spec, with brand new components - its practically a brand new gear box in an original case!

£900 that's a LOT! I've bought cars for less :-) I would be tempted to put an 8v box on as you have more choice (Ibizas etc) and motorway driving will be less noisy ...or look into getting the one you have reconditioned which will be a lot cheaper than £900. Trouble with getting s/h boxes is you're taking a chance, so don't pay too much for one.

Wont an 8V box rev more on the motorway?? I have an 8V and its revs its T*tis off at 80!!! lol

Most specialists are good enough to build a lasting box for you, but i doubt you will ever get much better than the VW recon unit.
