Bring my corroded steel wheels back to life!

Hey guys,

Can someone tell me which option is better to repair my slightly corroded steel wheels on my polo back to life? I was thinking:

1) Sand down with sandpaper to smooth finish, removing rust in the process. Then mask the tyre, and spray with Hammerite Silver Smooth finish spray paint.

2) Use Hammerite smooth finish paint on the whole wheel and on top of the corrosion (the paint says "Paint over rust" or similar).

Which option is the best and do you have any advice/recommendations.

A guide to refurbing them would also come in very handy.

Haha, it'll hurt my wallet though lol!

I'm gonna give the sand down to smooth and spray them a go, if they get f****d, i'm going to be changing them sometime next year anyway

i tried to refurb my steelies in the summer. sanded them down, this takes a LONG time btw. Then sprayed them with normal VW paint - primer basecoat and laquer. my car is silver so sprayed the wheels the same colour as the car. took me a whole w/e to do two wheels but they looked awsome after. now however, a few months down the line the rust is back

the water seems to sit in the lip by the tyre and it just goes rusty. hammerite would probably be much better though than body paint as its much tougher and will survive the punnishment your wheels go through. oh, and - GOOD LUCK

I'd sand them before spraying, just to be sure it won't come through and f*ck up your spraying
