What about the clio 182?

Post by alexperkins »

Hi all,

I know this is treachery to VW, but im interested in a 53 plate Renault Clio 182 2.0 16v Sport.

I love the look of them, espeically at night with the xenons on

Now, has anyone driven one of these...if so what are they like

And who would buy one (with a non VW bias please :P)

Thanks

Alex

lol what happened to the valver conversion, or the GTi?

I think they're nice cars, but I wouldn't get one I don't think...I wouldn't feel right

Im leaving my options open atm. I really want a GTI, but insurance on it hurts. Itll probs burn on the clio too mind you.

Basically, the next car get has to be at least a 1.6 with sport tuning, although im contemplating a 1.4TDI with a remap and a new turbo perhaps.

I went from my 6n to my 182.

Its fun car to drive, build quality isn't as good as a VW but im sure your aware of that.

Fuel wise you would be better off with a TDi i get 33 mpg and thats about as best it gets. Also the clio would ideally need to be run on optimax, 98 ron as specified by renault.

For more info look on Cliosport.net or renaultsport.co.uk any questions you have, answers can proberly be found by searching or posting.

Hope thats of help

No just NO, rubbish cars IMO. All they're good for is speed.

I'd get one. I like the current lot of Renaults, they seem rather quirky and different.

If you're open up to options Alex, may I suggest a Classic Mini? I had one last year and I loved it 8)

The only experience of Clio's is my friends53plate, the way its made it seems older than my 2000 gti and its the only car I've ever been in during an accident, which incidently was down to a malfunction of the car. Safe tosay I'm not keen on them

Also I'd imagine the Clio insurance would be a lot worse than the Polo!

One thing to note is that the clio is far better rated for safety than the polo

Thanks for the input guys. Now bryony has said that it makes me question it. For a minute there i was gonna give a french car a go lol.

Think its gonna be a VW next.... but which one.....do i get a TDI or a new 1.6 sport, or a 1.4 FSI sport.

Which one would you guys choose?

i've been in the clio 172, it seemed really..... tinny, fast but tinny. Didnt feel like it had been constructed properly? the inside seemed a bit tacky too, apart from the leather and suede seats of course.

I've never been a fan of them, i think they look at tad girly, it jsut sucks that there stats are so much better than the polo :?

I thought the Mk2 Clio got a 3 star NCAP rating and the Mk5 Polo a 4 star NCAP?

I would buy one Alex, but it would have to have both cup packs, which a lot of them do. Yes build quality isn't fantastic, but they drive very well out of the box, and don't need to be modified in order to handle well, unlike the majority of VW's.
