Problem......

drivin my polo the other day and when i turn right i hear a loud clunkin sound comin from the front. at first i thought it was the CV joint or the driveshaft but if i take it out of gear theres no noise what so ever. which has made me think is it the gearbox?
so i got under her and had a look and the gearbox has alot of play and is leakin oil, the inner CV joint has no play at all.
any help would be very greatful
