a northstar nsb90 at the back of the boot :)

Image

the battery is clamped down and very secure

Image

the box is a slanted back box, but with the long side 3" away from the back seat, ie its upside down and bolted thru the rear arches to allow for fitting 5 cubic ft in and the rather large battery :)

Image

for now i have an Atomic four channel and also a rather small class d (the big one at the bottom) that will do 3k rms into the subs, which at the moment are jbl GT5 12", these will load the amp at 2 ohms and get roughly 2k rms (not bad for a pair of 300 watt rms subs)

Image

Image

Image

the box is roughly 5 cubic ft and will be tuned to 28 hz by a 6" aeroport (basically a tube with large flared ends for better airflow)

Image

the car from the outside

yes, its official and i am fifth loudest guy in the world (for the minute) in db drag in my chosen class which is street max 1-2, i have 20krms, two eighteens and only one small battery (less than 800 cubic inchs)

the build of the marbella was different, it consisted of 200 metres of steel box section and basically no wood bar the front face, the inside of my box was then completely skimmed with filler/fibreglass mix and painted red :)

it did 163.4 at the world finals in france in october and has a world record at the moment :) (low at 158 db for now until i get some dual 1 ohm coil subs and push it a lot!)

for now they are JBL GT5 12" subs, but will be replaced with atomic AP12" subs when they get into the country ;)

box build halfway through :)

Image

a dark interior picture when the box had all its back and sides on through the port when we were fillering the steel

Image

a view from the boot, this is now covered in more steel with a layer of wood to mount the amps on so is not normally seen, you can see why we used 200 meters of steel tho :)

Image

that is how you sound deaden a car, stripped out of all bar the wiring and column :D

Image

that is before the steel went in, cinquecento sporting wheels added for good measure and i cut the front springs down by one coil (doable as they are parallel coils from top to bottom so they still seat correctly, before anyone says aaaaaggghhhh!)

Image

just for prosperity, my old GTI-6 estate ;)

Image

it started life as a 1.9TD :D it ended as 170bhp and handled like a demon! stopped too with 305mm front discs borrowed from a variety of cars! :D

update

Post by dumdum »

made me a battery tray to take another nsb 90 in the front, its very tight, but it fits the correct way up and doesn't hit the bonnet in any way :)

will take some pics when i take it out to paint the battery tray :)

a few feet of angle iron and a welder plus some 1/0 gauge for uprated earths (in convoluted tubing so it looks factory! :) )

so who wants to see these pictures then? :)

 Bloody hell thats mental! Now i have you and top's brains to pick when it comes to my install!! :D

When it comes to making a box, how do you get the best potential out it?

I have a 15" RE sub, but i dont just want a box plonked in the middle, i want it all to flow as a nice install but want to get the best sound out of the sub! How do you go about 'tuning' it? :D
