Independant specialist Central Scotland?

Post by davedougan »

Hi, I need the lower wishbone bushes replaced on my 03 Polo ( the awkward ones). Anyone know of a good specialist that will do this without bankrupting me?

cheers

Sorry if I've given you this answer on another forum, but Star Performance just outside Dsyart (just above Kirkcaldy) is the place you need to go to. Just make sure you ask for the Seat Ibiza Cupra to be used (fit and forget!) This repair is always going to cost a bit as full four wheel alignment needs to be done - not a bad thing in itself. Star's labour rates are well below the £90 an hour that VW charge and they still use only VAG parts, check up on them at www.starperformance.co.uk to get there just go up the express route thing to Kirkcaldy, turn right at the roundabout that says St Andrews straight on at the top end of Kirkcaldy, go down to the next roundabout then turn left and straight across the small roundabout beside a caravan sales place, then turn right at the next roundabout, go down this road to a give-way and turn left and drive past a mower sales place, then turn right into the industrial estate (old Francis coal pit) - Star Performance is on your right hand side and they have a parking area at the front. I originaly thought that this type of work would be beneath them - but that is certainly not the case - oh and they seem to win quite a few industry awards, and why not as they do the proper job! If you need to leave your car, you can either walk to Kirkcaldy railway station (or get the bus that runs along the main road to it - or elsewhere for a connection). You could always email Jim Curley at Star for a indicative price and to book it in. I am assuming that it is not against your beliefs to venture into the Kingdom of Fife, I went there, got that done plus a cambelt change and escaped back across the bridge again - so it can be done!

Hi, thanks for that. I'll get my jags first before i venture across the bridge to the land of the soap dodgers. Seriously tho I got a price from them seems ok. There's also a plce in Linlithgow where I live that also seems to know about these - the guy described exactly the bushes and the problems with them over the phone. The also have one of those special pullers for removing the on the car Tarduff Motors.
cheers

Tarduff Motors? I had not heard of them before (might investigate for the future). Its interesting to heard that they know about the www.bonustools.co.uk tool for changing them on the car. I emailed the guy that designed/sells this tool and asked if it was man enough to deal with the Ibiza Cupra solid bushes - he did not have them in mind when he designed this tool, on the grounds that the Ibiza Cupra solid bushes never need replaced (to date). I was trying to get the exhaust guys at Falkirk (Stainless Creations) interested in buying that tool as it could provide them with a cracking gold mine when just replacing like for like - every couple of years! For what its worth, I think replacing the normal voided bushes with the solid Ibiza Cupra bushes is the only way to avoid this problem - money well spent - on any Polo/Ibiza/Fabia.

I'm sure Hunters of Linlithgow have the tool and are a vwaudi registered garage. Reasonable prices too.
