Help on colour choice for alloys

Post by M@Turner »

I recently bought some Audi 6 spoke alloys in 17" and there in need of a refurb ready to go on for the summer!!!!

I'm just unsure as to what colour to go for!

So far i'm thinking of having them Polished but the down side to this is its twice as expensive as powder coating and another forum member has already done this!

Suggestions on other finishes or colours for powder coating would be greatly received!!!

Cheers

PS. Alloys will be going on a standard ride height Black GTI.

What kind of look you after Matt?

As the car's black I'd probably just go for Silver, unless you want a stealthy look and fancy Anthracite or Black?

I love the diamond cut finish that I have on my TTs. They look superb in most lights. Plus it's not too dear either.

Cheers for quick replies!!!

I'm not particularly a fan of stealth to be honest Tom. If i go for a colour it would deffo be silver of some sort!!! May just go for a standard colour like they were originally.....better sell on value then! I'm so undecided.

Dave: How much did it cost to get yours Diamond cut? And what sort of places do it?

Dropped my wheels off this morning so have got till like Friday/Monday to decide and let the people know!

There's a place north of High Wycombe that do it, it's about the same cost as a normal refurb - 50 quid a wheel or something.

Some say it's not as robust but if the lacquer is good then you're laughing. I'd definitely do it again, whilst polished looks nice I still prefer the satin / reflective effect the diamond cutting has.

edit: I took this pic the other day, you can see why the diamond cutting has this effect:

I like the diamond cut too. Had this done on the Monza II wheels I had on my old Golf, along with mid grey inner spokes. Looked great under street lights and also in sunlight.

I'm a fan of diamond cutting too, it can't be too bad as a lot of manufacturers have it done on standard wheels!

LOL, that's definately diamond cut aluminium!
It looks fantastic in the light, got real depth to the finish and much nicer than painted if you've got flat faced wheels.
