Routing cables to glovebox / boot (Polo 9n)

Post by K.I.T.T. »

Well, following my last thread (all replies were greatly appreciated :)) it's time to actually get things going...

Am still undecided as far as the headunit goes, either:

http://www.caraudiodirect.co.uk/fusion- ... -6278.html And see how it performs with the stock speakers before deciding what to do speaker-wise OR get a phatbox and use the stock HU. Either way, looks like I'll be using the stock speakers for a while yet.

Anyway, how do you route the iPod cable to the glovebox? Do you have to take the glovebox out and make a small hole to pass the cable through? How do you get it out? I could only find 2 torx screws on the upper interior of the glove compartment. I'm assuming once the HU is out and you remove the glovebox, there'l be an empty space between where the HU was and where the glovebox used to be (if you get what I mean...)

And what's the best way of routing cables through to the boot?

For either case, pics would help if anyone has any :)

And call me weird, but I think I may be leaning towards the phatbox route...the fact that it has voice prompts has really had me thinking. Would rather be able to keep my eyes on the road all the time :) Might be able to still use CDs with the stock HU too if I temporarily swap my changer with a mates single CD player and hook the phatbox to the changer port on that!

But then again, a phatbox would set me back more or less the same as that fusion HU and I've had a 30 gig iPod video for nearly 2 years now...

Life's a biatch :D

Any help appreciated!
Cheers,
Ash :)

to route wires through to the boot you take off the door sill trim and just thread it through, there really isn't much else to it. the sill trim just pulls off!

Coolio! :)

How do you route the wires from the boot to behind the head unit though? Need to remove the dash?

Thanks!

no need. just thread the wires down each side of the centre bit of the dash. it's fiddly but pretty easy. on the driver side you can squeeze them through, on the passenger side you're best off unscrewing the footwell plastic cover.

OK, thanks for that Dave :) Will have a look tomorrow when it's bright.

Does this mean cables are visible in the footwell?

I don't suppose you know how to route a able to the glove compartment by any chance do you?

Many thanks,
Ash :)

No, you won't be able to see them in the footwell.

not sure about the glove compartment, you'll have to see when it's brighter, can't be too hard though!
