Smoothed boot handle

Post by Mouse_GTI »

Hey peeps, just wondering for all the peeps with a smoothed boot handle, how do you open your boot? Do you have a switch wired up on the dash?

You need to get a popper put into the boot, which is wired upto a button, generally by the heater window controls.

I used to have a flush boot on my old saxo

Because i had taken out the window wiper and motor, i decided to use the wiring to open the boot.

I wired up a solenoid (central locking motor) onto the lock and to open the boot you had to turn on the rear windscreen wiper.

All i had to do was put a spring on the central locking motor to push the motor back into the lock position once you had opened the boot.

I was thinking of going down a similar route with my polo but am still undecided at the moment.

Thats the general way of doing the job. I've always wanted to do it but cos they do fail I feel reluctant to give it a go.

If I do it I want to make a proper job of it, i.e. have like an OEM switch

Mine's wired up to the rear wiper switch, you just push it lightly and it pops it open. Well it did until the motor seized. Have got another one to fit but am a bit lazy at the moment.

Yeh you could just get another switch (like the heated leather or re-window heater), and wire it up to that?

just use the positive wire from the wiper, i'm guessing it would be the red one, i still need to hook mine up because it can be annoying to pull out the key everytime i want to pop the boot
