fitin rocker cover?

Post by Hardcore »

my dad reckons i cant just swap my old one for a chrome one, cus theres a gasket underneath it. and a rubber seal. if i tae it off, ill never be able to tightern the bolds up enough, or in the right order, and wont be able to sit the cover on the seal appropriatley and oil will leak out. is this true?? or is it just a simple change? and buy a new rubber seel?

Best to get a new gasket. Should only cost a couple of quid from GSF or ECP.

easy job do it with the engine nice and arm then the gasket wont break
not too hot you will birn yourself
tighten the new one down left and right first getting them nice and snug then the midle stud
be very carefull not to tighten them too much as they r very weak studs and will snap off
your rocker gear it not under and presure from oil doesnt need to b pesure resistant just not have any gaps

okk. hows this for co-incidence? i jus checked my oil and hardly none there. so which oil do i put in it please? its a 1.4 8 valve.

alsoo. what does it mean if theres cramy coloured stuff in the oil :| i taken that cap off the rocker cover, and theres all craemy gunk in it.

does that mean wter is geting into my enginee? and the head gasket has gone?

can this jus be my luck or what. i havent even tuched the head gasket or anythink yet. jus checked my oil :(

Oil I use is 10W40, and if there's no oil in it anymore, that's not too good. Creamy stuff can be 2 things: 1) you plug the gaspedal too deep when the engine is still cold, or 2) your head gasket is gone indeed.

Check your coolant can for the colour/smell of the coolant. If that is dark and oilsmelly then you've got yourself a leaking gasket, better to get it checked anyway, cause looking at coolant etc. is just a simple way, the gasket can leak into multiple ways/channels, for instance it doesn't have to be leaking into the coolant-channels, but can just only leak into the cilinders etc.

ye jarno is right smell or exhaust fumes and oily smells in the header tank
and i use 10/40 semi synthetic as its good for high temperater protection and as its semi the miniral oil gives a better protection than fully synthetic but the miniral oil breaks down sooner in the heat range so u get best of both using semi

oo right. my mate has given me sum 15/40 oil. is that ok to use?[ cus i have no oil or no cash at all until next week, so i just need it to last me a week lol. so i was just going to top it up with some oil to get me to work and back.

i think it must be my head gasket gone because i havent touched my enginee. there is no smell coming from the exhaust or owt. it still runns normal. am gona get my oil and filter changed, drain it all out an have some quality clean stuff put in, when i next get paid next week hen i might get my mate to change the head gasket for me just to make me feel better.he can change me rocker cover, and fit that camshaft iv been waiting to have put in all at the same time. kill a few birds with one stone and try to get back up to speed with modds.suppose ill just have to keep monitoring it from there and if it comes back ill take it to a garage.

different grades of oil don't tend to mix a 100%, better to get some 10W40 m8!
