Had my new gearbox fitted so I decided to buy a new clutch kit aswell. However, as soon as we started the car, with the clutch pedal up and in neutral, it makes a noise, when you press the clutch the noise disappears. When we looked at the gearbox, the oil filler plug had "disappeared", so we had to use the gearbox oil loevel sensor to fill up the box with oil. I am wondering if the noise is due to oil starvation?
Also, as a sanity check, does anyone have a picture of the front a Mk4 gearbox (1998 1.4 L), I think the doughnut has put a what looks like a core plug in the gearbox filler hole, just need to check. If I remember correctly the gearbox oil filler is above the sender unit in the gearbox which on mine is at the front of the box.
Also, is there an easy way of re-aligning the selector to the gearbox as we can get Reverse, 1st, 2nd and 3rd but 4th and 5th are a bit of a mission.
Cheers guys.
