So bought a 2001 polo gti 2 weeks ago so cause the milage was quite thought i'd take it for a cambelt change and get it plugged in as a abs&engine managent Light was on.......
needless to say my mechanic rang me the next day with the usual "are you sitting down" trouble been he meant it this time..
(sorry if this message is going on a bit people)
Right here goes...
-cam guides collasped
-gear box leaking oil
-steering rack arms loose
-abs outside tollerance
plus loads of other sillly little things !!
so needless to say the i rang the garage and they agreed to honor the engine and gearbox waranty
So i rang vw for a abs pump price £657inc vat i mean is thing made of gold&diamond encrusted????
So i'l cut to the question if anyone can help my pump no is 6x0614217 i've seen one on ebay off a polo 2001 part no 6xo614117 will this still work or are GTI one different...
Sorry to go on but i really love the car and it's really gutted so just wana it get it sorted plus my M.O.T due in less than 2 weeks so need the abs sorting out
Thanks for looking Lee

Are you sure its the pump? ABS sensors on the GTi are very temperamental, and although the computer may tell you the pumps knackered, a cheap sensor will fix it.

hi tim cheers for the reply well i've had it plugged in and the scan brought up :-
-01276 Abs hydaulic pump -V64 signal outside tolerances
-00290 Abs wheel speed sensor,Rear left sensor G46 intermittent
But the garage where i took it say its the pump what do you think?
thanks lee

Did the garage actually investigate and check the pump?
If they're jsut going by what vagcom picked up its likely to just be a sensor or two.
There's a connector leading to one underneath the rear bench on the driver's side, if you unplug and plug back in the connector it should be fine, not sure about the other one though

so what would you do change the wheel sensor and see if it sorts the pump would it tie in?

yeh definitely, it only costs a few quid. Find whether the mechanic actually checked the pump or not, or whether he just looked at the diagnostic faults

the mechanic only went off the vagcom readings as he recomended i got an auto electrian to have a look at it but for what a car sparky costs ie £90 i thought i'd just buy a used pump and module so i might owe you a massive favour here tim if its just the sensor thats causing the abs problem

Yeh if he just went off vagcom definitely check the sensors first.
Someone else on here will be able to tell you exactly where they all are

Car should be fine once you get these problems sorted. It is a blow when you spend so much money on it in a short space of time. My service this time last year cost me £1250!

From vagcat.com wrote:

ABS+ / PR-1AC
6X0698217

ABS+EDS / PR-1AH
I suspected they'd be different, and the EDS possibly refers the Electronic Differential Lock which only the GTI has

I was under the impression that you cant just change the ABS unit...that it was coded in the ECU, and therefore the ECU and ABS unit had to be conencted to a VW computer and "networked"....But im not sure if that was the central locking pump or the ABS one...hmmm
