leather gaiter help needed!!!

Post by sniblett15 »

hello all, new to forum and polo's and not to clued up on the forum side of things so please bear with
just got 51 plate polo 1.4 ( 6n2 i think) and wanted to replace the leather boot round the gear stick as all worn and generally nasty looking,
well took off the entire head using the guides on here but cant detach the knob so i can fit new boot.
just wondering wheather it is possible to replace just the leather boot and keep the knob or vw have designed it so you have to replace the lot :?
if possible does any body know how as knobs in good nic and looks quite nice anyway (and im skint).
will post pics later if needed
any info would be appreciated
cheers

Hiya mate, Welcome to the site.

Haven't done it myself, but I'm sure you can get the gaiter off no problem without damaging the knob, you tried unscrewing it both ways? I think they're attached to each other with a metal clip

Thats the third different gaitor question this week, weird!

changed mine but ended up replacing the whole thing. Think it is possible (think you'd need to separate the gator from the knob...maybe by cutting round the ridge between the two).

To be honest, I wanted split them, if anything you'll chance ruining them both.
