Get your current rebuilt with stronger bearings - thats the best option.

No replacement gearbox is cheap...a new one retails about £1000 if you get a proper VW rebuild. As far as I am aware, there is no switchable gearbox for the polo engine, unless you were to switch for a 6speed lupo box, but that would require a hydraulic clutch conversion.

i like the sound of the 6 speed lupo box, do you know if the clutch from the lupo is a straight fit along with the g/box into my car ?

Lol as I say, its a hydraulic clutch which is a very costly conversion to make. Requires new pedal box, piping, slave cylinders loads of bits and pieces. How much power you planning on putting through it?

well im thinking of supercharging it, gradually buying the bits over a yr or so, beacause i can get the charger out of a cooper s for very cheap, ive been told about 120 bhp, maybe more on low boost. if i dont do that im just going to put fast road cams on with a remap, unihcip etc so around 100bhp for that

surely it would be cheaper and a hell of a lot easier just to buy a gti and get 125 bhp?

It would DEFINITEY be worth selling up and buying a GTi, or even a GTi engine transplant.
