polo mk4 gearbox question

i have got a 1996 polo mk4 the gearbox has blowen a hole in the front im looking to get a new gearbox but im not sure if i will get away with putting a box in from another 1.4 with a gifferent gearbox code could someone please get back to me thanks ian

You need to use exactly the same gearbox. All the 6N ones are the same but the ratios are all different.

Mmmmm, don't want to step on anyones toes buuuut, my gearbox recently blew (engine code APQ) and I now have a gearbox from an AEX coded engine, as the previous guy said the ratio's will be different (mine are, for the better I might add).

oh rite cos my engine coe is aex if i can get another box from a 1.4 with the same engine code i will get away with it
