help me save my 1982 mint cond GL

Post by toomanydubs »

I got a minter of a time warp 1982 Polo GL breadvan type hatchback about 6 years ago, it cost £500 and was a one owner car with 48,000 miles on, I'd previously used 1960's Beetles for 17 winters so Polo was quite a revelation.
I covered 55,000 miles in 5 years and it passed every MOT first time, THEN DISASTER , a pipe burst and it boiled over , the cylender head gasket was wrecked, we skimmed the head did the gasket and pipe and was on the road again, then the pipe blew off and it siezed the engine, I laid it up and bought a battered 1993 polo to run around in but i really wanted the '82 fixed. I managed to get an engine for an '87 coupe in a wrecked donor car but it's auto choke and mine is a different looking engine and manual choke, can anyone advise me if it is a direct swap, Anyone out there fancy the job of the transplant. , CASH WAITING !!

the
82' polo will have 8 bolt rocker cover early block
87' polo will have 3 bolt rocker cover late block

the both will fit same cars but the difference are the LOOM and the sensors

you will need the later loom to fit the later engine dude

or you could fit you early head onto the late block and fit it that way

the choke is not a problem at all, you can convert it to either auto or manaul as longer as you still have the parts to do it.

or just swap inlets over with the carbs
