brake problems

Post by matty2767 »

hi guys

i have a tdi polo 2001 model. i bought the car new and since then have been back to the garage 15x to have the brakes repaired. they keep sticking, seizing and generally are noisy when the brake pedal inst pressed.

enough is enough and i have got some legal advice and am going to get this situation sorted once and for all.

one possibility that was mentioned by the legal chap was to get monies for a new braking system manufactured by someone other than vw, say brembo for example.

my question is can this be done? the whole system would need to go (pads, disks, calipers, pistons, cables, pipes, maybe master cylinder and servo(?), and the whole handbrake assembly.

also if anyone has done this then how much did it cost?

obviously i am not after more performance but it will need to be equal to the vw system it terms of braking power.

thanks for your help

Hi Matt,

I've never seen the rear brakes uprated (or changed, really) by an aftermarket company yet. It's usually the front brakes that get replaced with Brembo/etc items. I'm sure that you'll get a more educated response from the companies themselves, so try calling a few of them to hear their opinions on the matter.

What confuses me is the fact that VW can't sort out their own brakes. Surely, it may take a couple of times, but in the end (if everything has been replaced) it's a design flaw. Which would mean that all Mk5's have this problem/these problems. Weird.

Anyway, try speaking to brake industry experts, they should be able to guide you as well.
