It has been said that there are special shim packs available that allow you to get slight adjustment by fitting wedged shim packs behind the hub mounting plate. Have a look on briskoda.net as someone, maybe basil , tried this out to correct an alignment problem - yes you are correct for all normal people there is no adjustment other than moving the front around.
