6n2 rear lights onto 6n

I tried to fit the rear 6n2 lights onto my 6n. The passenger side went on and worked fine but the drivers side for some reason wouldn't work properly and the lights when operated were flashing wrong and together at the same time sometimes.
I swapped the bulb holders over but still the same problem on the drivers side so it's not the holder obviously. Tried cleaning the contacts and everything but nothing sorted the problem. My mechanic said it might be a wiring problem as it looked like it had been tampered with at some point and there was this connector that didn't look like it belonged there.
Does anyone have any ideas on what the connector is or how to solve this problem? I've seen several posts before regarding fixing these lights onto a 6n and i've only ever seen people saying that they maybe have to sand it to get it to fit right but never anything about rewiring to get the lights going right.
Any help would be great as its driving me mad!

From memory, i think there is a wire or 2 to swap. Have a look in the DIY guides section & you'll find a pictorial guide.
