1.2 SE brake upgrade?

Post by v_dubster »

We'll be needing bigger brakes all round soon 8)
Any ideas what will go onto the front of a 9N 1.2 (65) fairly easily and how do we convert the rear to discs? :)

I'm busy doing mine atm. I've gone for the golf gti turbo brakes (coz i knew a lad breaking a mk4 turbo and I could get them at a decent price!)
Rears are relatively easy, by this i mean you don't have to change the rear beam, the mounting points for the caliper are already there... so.... you'll need caliper, carrier, stub axle and probably a different handbrake cable.
Fronts are a bit more of a pain, you'll need polo gti (mk7) or polo GT TDI hubs bearings and bearing carriers (yep, thats the big bit that the shocker sits in too!)

all in all, not a cheap or easy job.

There will also be Skoda Fabia VRS and Seat Ibiza Cupra + maybe some other models that you can get the bits from. Just remember you are looking for hubs from one of these cars that has a detachable calliper bracket - as all the lesser cars have their hub/calliper bracket all in one piece.
