My New Polo! and Questions

Post by Joe_Mk5 »

Hi there everyone,
I've just bought a silver polo 6n2 but noticed that the clutch bites really high. It does not slip when tested but is this a sign of the clutch going? or could it be adjusted? This is my first car so any help would be really appreciated!

Also the car judders a little bit when put into first gear would this be to do with the clutch as well?

Here are some pictures for you all to enjoy :) Let me know what you think!

thanks Joe

Welcome to the site mate, nice little base you have to start modding on 8)

What does your clutch feel like? Is it stiff and hard work? Does it get stiffer the more the engine heats up? Does it crunch a fair bit, including when selecting reverse?

thank you very much Tim :)

I Cant drive myself at the moment, i'm a month of being 17 but i bought it privately from London the other week and my friend Craig (CraigMk4) drove it home for me.
He said that the clutch Bites very high, it managed a 2 hour motorway journey and all seemed fine.
It was only the other day when my dad took it for a test drive did we notice the juddering in 1st.

Craig said that yea it did get stiffer as the drive went on and it feels as if it is on its way out.

whats your thoughts?

Yeh it sounds like you could do with a replacement. Next time someone is driving it, tell them to push the clutch down when at a moderate speed and listen. If you can hear a faint whine, your release bearings knackered. This should get done along with the clutch

thanks Stani,
I've been looking at your polo through this forum and have to say it looks spot on!
fine example of a polo my friend.

To answer your question theres no noise when it drives, so lets take that as a positive :P
Im going to get the clutched changed as soon as possible. im just hoping as you said that it is only the clutch causing the juddering.

sorry to hear about the gear box and clutch on yours :( just glad its all fixed now!

if you dont mind me asking, how much did it cost you to get the b pillars (the bits between windows not 100% sure thats the right name) to be made black?

It cost me nothing really, i bought some black vynl off ebay and made templates of the pillars and then vut out the vynl and stuck it on.

i sprayed the car and back of the vynl with soapy water so i had time to move it around and adjust it before it stuck and then used a hair dryer to shape it into the window seals.

i'll be honest not the easiest job but if u persevere u get a good result, two person job really.

good luck with the project mate and cheers for your comments on my car

Whaaat? :o

I got a Sachs clutch kit for £98 (inc delivery) ! Worth every penny, it's so light and feels 100 times better than standard.
