Post by KennyPOLO_Gti »

Gonna be replacing my rear vw badge as the paint job i done is lookin a bit poor these days.

So what do ppl think a should get?

Standard badge and just leave it or paint it again (but do a better job)
or black badge and paint it??

get another original one, see how it splits down, spray the rear backing plate on it red and leave the chrome bit chrome

i intend to do this to mine, but paint it black not red
im also considering having my pannel under the front wipers painted, as it just never seems to stay nice and rich black

that explains it haha

interestingly it states it is self adhesive, may have to have a go at removing mine to have its backing plate colour coded then

Hmm. Now I'm really looking forward to doing something similar with the badge on my car too.

Was bored when a got homew from work the day and couldna be arsed packin for ma holiday so decided to remove the rear badge and give it a spray paint. New badge coming this week so was just doing a wee tester to see how this badge would turn out

Got some Very Fine Emery we use to lap valve seats from work the day but forgot to bring it home!

Anyway, carefully prised off the badge from the boot, held on with a sticky gasket so be patient when doin it incase you snap the badge!

The silver VW is pinned onto the black plastic and the heads are mashed on the other side to hold in place so didnt want to start tryin to split them apart as my other VW badge hasnt arrived yet.

Covered the VW with taped and sprayed away. Gave around 3 layers of paint.

Anyway pics below. Last pic shows the "bubble" effect because it hasn't been smoothed off. Will do this with my new badge tho. Think when it comes i'll do this job again except emery it, and with the badge that I have the now i'll paint the VW black to see how they compare

Just cut the glued sections of the badges off with a stanley, and the badge will come into two pieces. then glue it back together with a glue gun. The results come out alot cleaner and smoother 8)
