Tdi coolant pressurising.

My 02 1.4 tdi is pressurising the coolant to the point that the coolant level drops so much that the light comes on to say there is no coolant.
Once the pressure is released it raises again.
There is no oil in the water and no water in the oil. Is there anything else except the head gasket that could cause this?
