Fitting Coilover Help!

Post by polo_dude »

A bit stuck on fitting the front coilovers, i've been using the D.I.Y Guide in the D.I.Y section on the fixture of the Raceland coillies. Now basically I'm not entirely sure what bits I need from the top of the original shocks that I have. When I bought my KW Coilovers they came with extra bits. However I'm not sure if these are the bits that are needed from the originals or not?

Here's the picture of them:

as far as im aware, if u brought them brand new u will, if theyre the same on the mk5, they should come with new top mounts so basically u will have in the new ones wat u have on the original ones but cause theyre new its advised to get new top mounts. which u should get in the kit i believe.

Ah right, well i bought the kit second hand, so i would guess that the previous owner just left his on? Or the original that was provided?

The thing I haven't quite got myself round is what is actually on the coilover and where it's meant to be. There's basically a top mount circled in red I think that is what it's called. Then there is a washer which I circled in green, and a nut which i circled in blue. Now is it that I need to undo the bolt (Blue) take the washer off(Green), leave the top mount on (Red) slot the coilover in place and replace the washer (Green)back on the rod and tighten the bolt(Blue) fro the top of the coilover?

I think you need to use the whole top mount setup from the old springs yallan. They bolt into the car through this, and the coilies are to a point made to fit different setups.

Is the fitting guide not with it? if not it may be online somewhere

Best place to look is in DIY guides at the raceland suspension fitting. :)

Yeah I think you're right, I was looking at the DIY guide on the racelands, I basically need to use the original top mounts for both front and rear and washer, bolts and everything meaning I'd need to get rid of the current one on it (In the picture).

Hopefully they should be on by Thursday! Then loads of pics!!

Cheers For the help guys! 8)
