prob best to get a new cable, and if the problem isn't fixed then it's time to look at the release arm or the clutch it's self.

Two types of cable, self adjust and manual adjust, just look under the bonnet and at the end of the cable to see what type you have..

I had this recently, when you pushed the pedal down, it would creak and felt as though it was "binding" or dragging on something. I fitted a new gearbox about 6 months ago now, and thought I would do the clutch, release bearing etc. After a couple of months it started getting really stiff to the point where a couple of weeks ago, it would get stuck. Last weekend I decided to have the box out and have a shufty. It turns out the new release bearing had issues sliding up and down the output shaft collar. I slapped on loads of grease, and put my original release bearing back. She's now so smooth, I am having to get used to it all over again.

Also, seeing as you are from Essex, get yourself down to Eastern Dubs every first wednesday of the month.

^^ Nice plug there

There's a few possible culprits causing the issue as Phat_Controller mentioned his was different.

i had broken 2 pedal boxes due to having the same stiffness and creaking as yours. After all of that I ended up changing the cable too, my gearbox went caput after a few more months. So after I had got that re-cond my clutch was very light and smooth and I still have no more problems (fingers crossed).

So the cause for my clutch to feel like yours was due to the gearbox straining the clutch, which caused the pedal box failures.

So it could be that, the clutch, cable, bearings like phat controller or the pedal box itself. They're prone to cracking at the joint where the clutch pedal sits due to crap welding. Any other issue can cause this part to fail.

Hope you get it sorted and if you can then head down to Eastern Dubs and we'll have a look at it.

^^ If you hear a little wiery continuous noise whilst driving BUT not when the clutch is down then its related to the gearbox.

About the starting issues it could a few things so best get that sorted.

I used to go Docklands UEL too, 2 years ago but got to park at the premises by lying about needing a student permit! If your up for it and the cars healthy enough at the time then do the midnight cruise with us on bank holiday sunday. However, come down to Eastern when you start uni cos there's plenty of people who can help.
