Got some project alloys! Progress Update.

Post by Torq-Al »

Got these today, apparently they are Ronal R15's. Even when I googled this I found very few references!

Gonna do a mini refurb & tidy them up a bit, then will do as a better set of rims than running standard steelies!

They came with good rubber 2xGoodyear F1's & 2xBridgestones, so will last a while! Got to find some centre caps tho'!

This what they can look like!

Probably do 'em gloss black, or had toyed with the idea of blue (same as car). Want too see if I can polish up the lip/outer rim.
Had a look on ebay, nothing at mo, also messaged a ronal UK & another stockist, just on the off chance they have some!
The guy I got them off broke the bead on them to help refurb the lip easier & re-balanced them too (tyre fitter!)
Keep me busy on my days off!

Looking nice and defo a good project to occupy yourself with. Thought about shadow chroming? it looks good on dark cars whilst keeping a bit of shine.

Not heard of that! :? Have you an example?

Just buzzed over the burrs & nicks with the sander & looks like most will come off easy! :D

There's a red 6n2 with shadow chromed BBS RA's in yje mk5 section, can't remember who's though!

The BM's a good example though, you could go slightly darker too.

Got 2 of the rims out yesterday & today, 4 go's with paintstripper & good clean down has given me a good base to start on!

Have quickly sanded the lip on the left hand one to see if it cleaned up alright, seems ok. Plenty of elbow grease left to get them looking better!

Found 3 centres on ebay so far, so fingers crossed I can find another!

They're not in bad nick, other 2 have a few blemishes around the lip, however all the 'faces' are good.

Don't think shadow chrome would go with my lack of patience! Still undecided on how to paint them, just stripping them & polishing the rim & seeing how I feel then! Could land up being either Metallic silver, Metallic Dark Grey, Glossy Black or god knows what!

Just know i've got to remember to use etch-primer!

Got 2 with final finish on, got a couple of blemishes to sort, however you get the idea!

You can clearly see the bit of kerb damage I haven't been able to remove, (might get the file on them & see how it goes) better than they were tho'. Can't really see that the lip & rim are polished, but I assure you they are! Just need buffing!

Gotta sort out some centre caps too, should look good when finished & on the car. At least I hope so!

Cheers mate! :D I'm a bit self-critical, did an ok job, will flat back the imperfections & re-do 'em. Will make a better first job of the other pair tho'!
