if you're only doing short journeys its because the engine isnt heating up properly and its not a problem, its just condensation in the crankscase as a result of the result of the piston blowby gasses. If you take your car on a long and hard run it should clear up.
So its just normal and nothing to worry about

The oil and crap in the breather pipes is designed to go in to the throttle body and be burnt off for environmental reasons. If it's breathing a lot of oily crap through those pipes it's worth taking the breather system apart and giving it a good clean out before it gets horribly blocked.
My old CL engine used to breathe heavily, so I cleaned the breather pod etc. out and then vented the breather pipes to an old bike-bottle as a catch tank. The car ran a lot better after that and it stopped the breather getting so clogged.
As Dom said the mayo like gunk is due to the engine not getting a chance to get properly hot - but the yellowy orange crap is quite normal in the breather system. Just out of interest I noticed my mum's Mk4 Polo had a lot of mayo under the filler cap recently, which puzzled me because I'd be using it a fair bit. The warm air feed was partially disconnected (anything to do with its recent service at VW?

) - so it was taking longer to warm up, thus the mayo. Hooked it back up, took it for a 'spirited' 10 mile run and the mayo was gone.

hopefully im right on this but you could just take the whole damn thing off and probably not have too many problems... maybe a bit (tiny) of oil spatter in the engine bay and having to top up with 525ml instead of 500ml...
if im wrong (seriously so, anyway) someone tell me as i should get mine replaced in that case
