new polo owner

Post by oliver12 »

you have probly all seen my polo in the last post its completly standard, apart from being lowerd and having a smooth grill and smaller smoked plates.

the previous owner thought it would be a good idea to spray the steelies white which i think looks ridiculous, couple of questions i got.

1.when i remove the side stripes whats underneath them holes? sticky tape?

2.how do i go about getting the rear lights all red instead of the orange bit, do i have to buy new rear lights or can i use tinting spray?

3.where do i get the front and side clear indicators from?

4.when im driving my car the tempreature is at the bottom but if i pull over and are stationary for 5-10 minutes temprature will rish to 70, but whe driving stays at the bottom, normal ?

5.where can or is any one sellling any deep dish wheels 14'' prefriably will consider others ?

6.which polo's have all black interior and roof lining (5-door)?

7. anyone got any other suggestions mods enigne exterior ideas for me , i wil be changine plugs, leads, dizzy cap, rotar arm, fuel filter, cold start sensor, oil, oil filter, engine coolant, brake fluid, etc , and then water pump , cam belt in a month or 2 , any one got any thing else i might want to change to prolong the life ?

1. Sidestrips. There's nothing behind them, check out this guide:
http://www.uk-polos.net/view ... 10&t=36056

2. Tail lights. You can spray them, the most effective mod though is to fit mark5 lights. Check out this guide:
http://www.uk-polos.net/view ... =10&t=9117

3. Indicators. Clear indicators can be bought from eBay or venom motorsports. Also forums such as this one, clubpolo and edition38.
Here are some links from venom:
http://www.venommotorsport.com/manufact ... o%20Mk%204
and
http://www.venommotorsport.com/manufact ... o%20Mk%204

4. Temperature Problem. Sounds like a dodgy temperature sensor, or possibly thermostate, or maybe even water pump. temp sensor is a £20 fix, here's a guide on replacing it if needed:
http://www.uk-polos.net/view ... re#p333827

5. Wheels. Check out http://www.wheel-whores.com/forum/ and http://www.edition38.com/forums/. They're both great for selling second hand wheels. Also http://www.dubmeister.co.uk for new wheels.

6. Roof Lining. No Polos have black lining unfortunately (to my knowledge anyhow). Easiest way is to buy some fabric, remove the lining and using some adhesive glue the new material on. then purchase black handles/visors etc.. from the Lupo or various golf models.

7. Further Work. Pollen filter? If the 6N has one. discs and pads if needed.

Hope this helps

The Pollen filter is the filter for the blowers system. It get pretty clogged up with stuff.

To remove the thermostate you first need to drain the coolant. So disconnect the pipe at the bottom of the radiator and let it drain.
The temperature sensor plugs into the actual thermostate housing (or a pipe leading from it), so you need to disconnect all relevant hoses and bolts to get to it.
I'm not sure how the 6Ns thermostats work, some come fixed to the housing, some don't. You'll see when you purchase it as to which type it is.
It'll either be with the housing attached, so a large plastic piece which you'll be able to work out where it fits. Or just the thermostate itself, so a small metal thing.
Either way, disconnect all the hoses and bolts leading up to the thing housing which the temp sensor plugs into and you'll find it.
There's normally a gasket which goes between the two housing pieces. If it's the type where you don't replace the whole housing, make sure you also buy one of these new.

On the 6n the thermostat is the huge thing Tim just described, it located just below the distributor cap in the 6n. Pour coolant out like Tim said by using the pipe next to radiator. Then under the distributor there is a pipe heading into a big square block of the engine, the house is held onto the block via two bolt screws undo them and pull the silicone pipe apart, inside is the thermostat, take out replace and its just the reverse of putting it back together. Word of warning sometime when you pop the hose out you might drop the old thermostat, be careful. Another thing is you do not need a gasket at all, as the hose has an internal seal inside meaning there is no need for a gasket.
