Gearbox Bearings CGZ / CWV

Hi,
Does anyone know the correct pre-load for the taper rollers on the main (input) shaft on a 5-speed Polo box. The bearings and shims are easy to get, but VW don't want to tell me what the bearing preload is.
I need to know the measurements to calculate the shim thickness for correct bearing pre-load.
Any other reason you cannot strip these boxes and rebuild them? Looks fairly straight forward, but maybe there's a problem I haven't spotted.
Hope you don't have to re-adjust everything else,like the other bearings and diff, just for a strip down?
