i decided that IF im going to inters (not sure) then nobody is going to even look at my car in its current state, so i removed one of my digits from an orifice i posses and cracked on with the things i have on my mental "to do" list
todays progress was to repaint 2 doors (same side its a 5 door remember) and remove the indents left from removing the rubbing strips which were fibreglassed from the rear and then just left (they could also be welded but i dont have a welder :( yet  the holes i was left with looked somthing like this:
Image
firstly i got sanding then filled the holes and primered the lower half of the section below the window
then it all got sanded (when dry) with 320 grit then 500 grit and checked for dings etc
then came the bite the bullet time for the color coat which after a lot of masking (as in primering stage) went quite well exept for 2 runs the ill prolly wet sand out tomorrow. please bear in mind that the color match is not exact but after a coupl of coats of laquer if shold be a lot better)
now for the pics

please remeber tht the runs and color match are normal and can be sorted quite easilly with wetsanding and a coat of laquer whic it would need any wat as all metalics are matt without a laquer

the hardest bit was putting the sander on the paint for the first time but after that it was easy just like dioing a customers car

So you've painted cars before then? That explains this drastic step then I guess! Coolness. Is there anything you don't do?

wheel align ment
rechargeing ac systems and rebuilding gearboxes

I tried once to paint the interior piece of the dash board....but the result made it clear: I had to give the pieces to a professionnal

if I wants remove the side strips...I'll do it at the same time as modifying the arches and removing the door handles

if you want it a bit easier try and get some mk4 door panels cos theres no holes and they might be able to do the handles without having the car which mens its in the shop for less time

I just realized;

This probably means you're keeping the OE handles, right?

:?:

as you can see no more holes :D yay

as you can see i might give it another coat of laquer or just sand buff and polih but that all depends on how it dries

Looking good, from what I can tell from the pics.

Didn't you have trouble with dust and dirt particles sticking to the paint? It's a different kind of paint booth than I'm used to seeing, it's very 'Au Naturel', so to speak...

In taking the pics last week I noticed the massive difference in color on the left side of my car, apparently the door had been repainted at one point. Too bad it doesn't match the rest of the car. Any worries about matching issues?

it matched quite well but the sky is getting dark now :(
