Recently bought a 1998 1.6 8v and after having it about 2 weeks noticed an obnoxious squeaking sound which seemed to be coming from the boot, tried a few things to fix nothing worked so i took it down to my local garage where they descovered it was the fuel tank which as it is made of plastic and can change shape over time causing it to move especially when you go over a bump causing the squeak. He is going to replace the fuel pump on top of the fuel tank which may fix the problem, otherwise Im in for a new fueltank. The noise it makes is unbearable i can even hear it with the stereo on, so there goes $400. I thought this thread might help other people as my mechanic thinks it could be a common problem with 6ns with plastic fuel tanks. Best of luck All. Tim
