Polo 1.9 TDi non start

Hi all, got a small intermitant problem with my polo 1.9TDi. Sometimes it starts and sometimes it doesnt, it just keeps turning over. I have notice when it doesnt start the glow plug light doenst illumiant, but when it does start the glowplug light lights up :|
Any ideas??
