I had to get my belts/tensioners/idlers/waterpump replaced by a local independant garage this week... I didnt have time to do it myself..
Before it went in, it made a little whining noise... bearly audible once the engine was growling...
However, now I can hear the belts at 80 on the motorway... and it makes a god awful noise at slow carpark speeds.... Kinda a whining electric wirring noise...
Has anyone else experienced this after a belt change?
I suspect something is not right, but not sure what..... Its annoying... and I dont want it to snap!
Noisy cambelt?
Re: Noisy cambelt?
A friend whos a mechanic changed my cambelt last month and im having the same problem. Its making a loud hissing noise and i also get worried if it can lead to any problem without even knowing. what could it be??
Re: Noisy cambelt?
Iv had a read of various things and had a think... it could be 4 things...
*Belt is too tight
*Belt is not threaded properly around the idler
*Bearings/waterpump of the replacement parts are crap
*Belt is rubbing on the bottom camcover
None of them are good news....Noises generally mean something is under stress...
Im going to have to lift the covers off on Thursd and have a look I think... possibly take it back to the garage and get it looked at again

Re: Noisy cambelt?
i went to check with my mate again and he had a look. funny thing is it wasnt my cambelt it was the weel bearing that had gone and making a huge hissing noise. theres a lil bit noise still coming from the cambelt though hes gonna double check the belt if its too tight as you said
