We're pretty sparse with options for modifying Polo's downunder. No 2 doors ever made it to our country and as for GTI's you can forget it (apart from 9N). So what can I do to my 1997 4 door that's cheap? I've been told I can replace the 1.6 and woefull gearbox with a SEAT or MK3 Golf 1.8 and gearbox but I need to swap to the Golf subframe too. If I have to do this much work can I fit something a bit more powerful than the 77 KW motor?

The biggest hurdle is the wiring loom. A SEAT loom to suit the Polo and 1.8 motor is cheap and should be an easy fit. Is there any other loom that suits the Polo AND a more powerful motor?

I'm not after a 1.8 turbo swap or anything complex. I drive 190 k's a day so reliability and fuel economy are pretty important but it would be nice to know what my options are.
