V's Blue 1.4 * Updates 29.01.10 *

Post by Verity »

Hey my names Verity. ive been lurking around for a while now so thought i should finally sign up and introduce my little motor

I'm not so much into major Mods. I think they look great but is nothing i would think of or be able to do lol.
i dont plan on doing anything to the engine. as long as i can over take safely when someone Malvern Manovers me then I'm happy
plus my boyfriends GTi with 140 BHP is enough speed for me :)
i do however want to get her looking nice. replacing bits and bobs and touching things up so she looks like new again.

Image Image

I got her back on the 05.06.09
went with my boyfriend and his best mate. it needed a new exhaust front pipe cat, which wouldnt cost me much from eBay. so i left £100 deposit and in the next few days sent a cheque for the rest of the money. when the cheque cleared the chap who i brought her from brought her down to my house for me. which was great as it ment i didnt have to go all the way back to get her.

Image

the mileage is much lower then my other polo so I'm happy

first thing i did the next morning was start cleaning. there was lots of water stains on the seats. and needed a good hoover. plus the original VW car mats were still in it and the rubber on the back was breaking off leaving little black bits everywhere.
also gave it a good clean and t-cut on the exterior.

then went down to work and got some new number plates made up. and mixed up some paint so i could do a few touch ups

Image

she needed servicing so Jack did all that for me.

* Spark Plugs
* Oil Filter
* Cabin Filter
* Oil Change
* Engine Flush

and of course the exhaust pipe.

he also got some extra bits but they wernt needed in the end so returned them.

while he did that i took the wheels off and refurbed them.

sanded them down then used Halfords Grey Primer. then 5 Wheel Paint in Silver (darker then the original colour)
and then Lacquered over the top

Image

and sanded down one of the side bumpers as it had a big scratch across it and resprayed that

Image

If you look closly you can still see the lines where I've not quite sanded the paint down enough. but its a whole lot better then it was so I'm happy.

16.06.09 - got some good ol' Halfords Set 54 Wiper Blades . none of those Aero wipers for me lol.

21.06.09 - took the CD player out of the SE and swapped it for the tray section from my Polo E

Image

i never use CD players as i just plug in my iPod. plus i like having the little storage section.
Eventually i will get a head unit but i want one that i really like and thinks suits the dashboard. like it should be there

Image

24.06.09 - decided to change the bulbs

Image Image

tried some Prism LED Blue Bulbs
but quickly decided they were WAY to Barry Boy Blue

so changed them to some white ones

Image

and got some Ultra Power Bulbs just for a slight change (il have to get some night pictures some time)

03.07.09 - Decided some new Tyres were in great need.

just got some cheap Ripspeed alloys from Halfords. ok ok there not BBS or anything like that. but it was cheaper for me to just get them then buy 4 new tyres and get them put on at a garage

Image

i like them tho. i think they suit it. i need to get some different center caps!

Image

you can see how bad the old tyres were

Image

and the tyres were odd.

All a bit boring I know
but let me know what you think.
more things to be added soon i hope ;)

Thanks Guys :)

Gary Gee - Unlucky about the screwdriver thing lol. the light coloured interior is annoying at times specially the seats hard to keep clean and looking perfect.
also lowering is deffinatly on the cards. second hand lowering springs are ok right? theyd only be a few months old. put some on Jacks GTi about three months ago but he wants to get some coilovers soon so i might nabb those off him

adam_0612 - HaHa attually i was thinking of also stealing Jacks GTI* alloys off him as soon as his new wheels go on. but im not sure if theyll suit my car like they do the GTi

lolhoward - lol is a good colour aint it :) attually your motor was one of my big influence to deciding on a blue polo stumbled across your thread when i was lurking around a while ago and loved it

Also got a question for you guys.
i think my answer is probably around somewhere but i cant quite find exactly what im looking for.
I really want a GTi splitter i like the chunkier front end look they give the car specially when lowered.
one would fit my bumper right?
and does it just clip/screw on? (ive seen pictures of changes that need to be made to fit a 6n but that kind of confused me lol) but i was feeling around the little one i have one her atm and catn quite figure how its on (blonde moment)

*not great taking bits of your boyfriends car i know but ive given him money for many many parts and upgrades so thats kindda redeeming lol

Cheers. Cant beleive it swayed you in buying one, quite chuffed.

Yeah thats a GTi spliter will just clip straight on once you've removed the standard one. Quite hard to get one unless you buy from stealers for around £50.

one would fit my bumper right? (i was certain untill someone said the bumper on a GTi is a different size to a normal polo now i have a little nagging voice in the back of my head telling me im wrong)
and does it just clip/screw on? (ive seen pictures of changes that need to be made to fit a 6n but that kind of confused me lol) but i was feeling around the little one i have one her atm and catn quite figure how its on (blonde moment)

yes second hand springs are fine... if they are gti ones if it says 30mm it will be lower as a gti is lower anyway so be mindful

and as for splitter they fit striaght on the bumper isnt different from a gti the splitter and grills however are and it clips on all the way round took me bout 10-15 mins to take old one off and put new one on :)

:D Cheers Guys
Looks like ill be getting a GTI Splitter :)

Changed the Drive Belt yesterday. the old one wasnt to bad but it was worth doing.

Image

Thought I would mention some little things that have gone wrong so far. i dunno if any of these things have happened to you, except for a few things ive seen in the Known/coomon Fault thread

Blowing Exhaust
knew about it when i brought the car. brought a new one off eBay for £90

Blowing Manifold
took the manifold off and found a tiny hairline crack on some of the welding.
got a mate at work to reweld it for me as there was no point buying a whole new one. gave him £10 for his time.

Broken Passenger Side Key Barrel
new it was going to happen as i found something in the Known/common fault thread where someone said it went a bit stiff and wouldnt turn back properly or something like that. avoided using the key mainly but used it a few days ago and broke.
took the door card off and found the little bit that had broken off. central locking still works. so not worrying about it for now.

Rear washer hose pipe Blocked
Flushed loads of hot water through and started working but not great....

Rear washer hose pipe Leaking
When Flushing water through to get it working again. my boyfriend could smell the screen wash round the back of my car.
took the boot card off and followed the pipe round under the door of my left back passenger seat.
under the seat filled with water. and found the pipe had come apart just by the seat under the door.
put the pipe back together (it wasnt cut or broken. one pipe fits into the other. it has just come loose)
and is now all working propely.

Drivers Side Door Barrel
the other day it felt really stiff like the passenger side did. started freaking thinking that barrel was going to go as well...turned out it just needed a bit of grease.

Passenger Side Child Lock has a mind of its own
Sometimes the door wont open from the inside. has only done it about 3 times and has only happened to my boyfriend... i think the car likes having him there.
havnt had a look at it yet. so not been fixed.

Passenger Side Door Wont Open
Last two days the door wont open inside or out. managed to get it open once the other day. then not straight after. then yesterday the door opened after the drive but from the outside. currently still stuck.
Seems like something has slipped. will get the door open and take door card off when i can get round to it.

The Next Three all happened within 10 mins of each other -

Aircon/Cold Air making wierd noise
ws just driving along and a really loud weird blowing noise started happening.
boyfriend fixed it. took middle dash bit out and did what ever he did. all i saw was that the middle dial broke cose that wiggled on its own instead of staying were you put it.

Speakers Painful to listen to
...not really the cars fault as it turned out to be my iPod Tape adapter. the wires are broken as i hide them behind the orginal radio.
just have to listen to the radio till i get a new tape....or a headunit i like

Car Not Starting (turning over but taking ages to fire up)
tried a new battery by suggestion thinking that it might not have enough 'umf' but made no difference
boyfriend randomly redlined it and after that she started working better.
so brought some 10k Boost Petrol spray stuff from Halfords. worked a treat :) does everything it says on the box so my car is now working better then ever.

im super lucky to have a boyfriend that loves fidderling with motors. he attually smiled when i told him the car wouldnt start up lol

I had exactly the same problem. Strange there's a connection there any way. Why not have one length of pipe.

yeah i know it is weird. and kinnda annoying. least we caught it intime before it did damage. the only thing i can think of is it makes it easier to replace small sections if something goes wrong rather then a bit of the pipe perishing and having to replace the whole pipe. vw being thoughtful perhaps? lol

thought id check it today make sure it wasnt leaking again
and noticed some moisture under the back seats.
only little bits like condensation. but still that cant be good
any ideas whats causing it?
its on both sides. so i was wondering if its to do with the heavy rain weve had recently finding a way into the motor

Hey Verity, looks like you're making some nice changes and that colour is truly immense.

I have a question about that storage tray you put in, in place of the CD player. Where can you get one of those, I tried Halfords but all they have is a black out section?

Cheers f1madman :D

with regards to the under radio try unit thingy i stole mine out of my silver polo. just swapped them straight over.

at Halfords we do do a universal pocket which according to our specialist is s**t. so your best going for a real VW one.
give eBay a go or the wanted section on the forum. i would imagine there should be some floating around as when cars get scrapped and broken down i would have thought it would be a part that often got over looked and forgot about. :D
