Arghhhh ! Central Locking !

Post by dweebs »

Hey all,

Seem to have a central locking problem - have searched through the forums but no real luck so am hoping someone has some input !

I've got a 2001 Polo 1.4 MPi - 5 door with central locking and front electric windows.

Central locking is now playing up

I can't get the doors to all close up at once. If i manually close the doors i can then get them to open up at once.

I've changed the vacuum pump with no such luck. It's not the microswitch as it still tries to lock the doors. I don't think it's a leak in the tubing as there's no problem with the locks all opening !

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

PS - this problem has got worse over time.....at first the front passenger door would lock and one of the rear doors would lock but now none do !

Cheers

Hey mate

I think there's a leak in the piping somewhere. On my old 6n I had a similar problem to a lesser extent. Unlocking was fine but locking the car the pump took a long time to build up enough pressure to trip the killswitch. If it affects the same doors every time, try checking the pipes leading to those doors first, then work back.

Hope this helps!

Hi there,

Cheers for the response - I think you may be right, i tried manually sucking and blowing into the pipe in the boot. There was no resistance to sucking at all and blowing lightly opened the doors very easily.

It's just weird that with a leak it should be a problem both opening and closing ?

Cheers

It is a bit weird, but for some reason unlocking the car takes much less pressure than locking it. I think gravity helps out during the unlocking, or some witchcraft occurs! I never had a chance to take my car apart and find the cause of the leak, as it got written off by some bint in an MPV before I got round to it!
