6N Door Speaker - Question

Post by Dub-Ninja »

Hey guys.
I'm thinking of replacing my standard 6N door speakers. But they do seem pretty loud so I was wondering if anybody could tell me the RMS etc of the standard door speakers in a 6N?
Thanks :)

You'll probably laugh at me for asking this... but what do you mean by 'components for the front' ?
I am what you call a complete novice. Lol
Thanks though :)

This all depends on what head unit you have. Standard VW car speakers usually are a lot more sensitive than aftermarket ones, meaning that a smaller signal from the VW head unit will give them more bass. This gives them a warm and surprisingly punchy sound, but they soon become overpowered and "clip".

If you change the head unit you will find that it's not matched to the VW speakers and may tend to sound off / overpowered too easily (mainly for the woofers in the door pods, not the treble through the tweeters).

If you change the head unit and speakers together then you start to notice the difference, and more so if you amplify the front speakers properly with an external amplifier.

By components we mean a speaker setup which separates the low/mid frequencies and high frequencies into different physical speakers - like the standard setup does. The bass/mid goes to the door woofers and the treble goes to the tweeters.

I can guarantee if you simply put aftermarket 3-way speakers into the door pods it will sound worse. Components are necessary and a head unit / amplifier to match.

What head unit is it?

Wow, that explanation was very helpful. I'm taking you advice and buying some Edge component speakers I think. Thanks for the help. Appreciate it :)

From what I've been told, Edge is one of the best car audio brand on the market. They're certainly expensive in Halfords. I can get 'em a bit cheaper off my friend tho, so I'll hopefully get 'em half price or something.

I'll have a look around for a decent pair of speakers. Gotta have a nice sound in the car.
