Speedo not working, need help locating the sensor

Post by irishkeet »

Hi
I bought my Polo a few weeks ago and the sppedo is not working.
Im told it may be a faulty/loose sensor connection, but I cant locate the sensor.
Im told its on the gearbox but the photo in the haynes is so small and dark Its not much help
Can anyone post up a photo of their sensor and where it is.

Also the temp gauge is a bit erratic but I have located the green temp sensor to replace.

thanks a lot in advance

And thats the right part number you have there for it - its gonna be a VW dealer replacement jobby too

edit: You are missing a wire on that. You should have a black/grey, white/blue and a brown wire going into that plug. It looks as though the brown (earth) is missing - have a look back up the loom and see if its dangling somewhere.

I traced the wires which seem to join up with others and earth under the battery holder

Im stumped now! May be a loose wire behind the clocks?

hmm it sounds like a ground fault somewhere for sure. Can you get it plugged into vagcom and check instruments?

Hi
I did plug it in with the free version and the only fault that came up was the coolant temp sensor for which I have a replacement to fit
might try it again and see whats going on
also the connector has a lot of grease on it maybe the wires are not making a good connection

you need to plug it in and loads the instruments group (not engine 01) and check for fault codes as these have their own diagnostics.
