Mine does this too on my gti.. Does my head right in, but I've gotten used to it. If WD40 does the trick I'll be well chuffed!
Re: Grinding Steering Wheel?
mine too, am gonna leave it and not make my car smell of wd40
Re: Grinding Steering Wheel?

Do you have to actually take the steering wheel off? Or just spray the WD40 etc into the crack bit? lol, I'm so crap at explaining stuff.Verity wrote:my old 6n2 E did the same thing. greased it. stopped it

Re: Grinding Steering Wheel?
If I remember correctly theres two small metal contacts between the steering wheel and rack. Poss for air bag. Mine had a bit of dirt on. Cleaned them and sprayed them and that sorted it.
Dont use WD40 though. Buy a decent silicone spray, alot safer and better.

Re: Grinding Steering Wheel?
Didnt remove the wheel. You should be able to see them and get a small screw driver or cloth in there.
Re: Grinding Steering Wheel?
Wd40 is fine. Oh you may have to remove Abit of the cowling to get right in there. Only a couple of short blasts is needed

Re: Grinding Steering Wheel?
Lolhoward is on the right track. there is a metal contact between the wheel and the boss, I think it gives the wheel a connection for the horn and (if fitted) the airbag. Just put in a bit of grease and bend the rod(s) so they run on the metal plate of the boss more smoothly. (Assuming you can get at it, I had this problem on my old 6n and it was easy enough to get to on there)
