Its Lambda not lander - youll have people confused! Yes it will make a difference to your MPG as it controls the air/fuel ratio inside the engine.
And as for the service, if it needs it, do it - theres no point saying i cant be assed when you have an underlying problem with burning excess fuel as it can all be related.

Sorry mate but people like you shouldnt own a car if you cant be bothered to maintain a car properly. Get it Serviced and the sensor sorted out and You'll be saving hundreds of pounds a year in fuel!

Re: could lambda sensor result in poor MPG
cheers bepe... im selling it next year and ill make sure its as good as can be before that but as for now... i lost my job, and now am only working part time 100 pound for a service when my step dad was a mechanic for like 22 years seem like an unecessary expense when i know in the last year nearly everything has been replaced or looked at !
any idea how much this sensor is ? il get my step dad to fit it so just the part i need !

Lambda sensor is about £160 from a VW dealer, but GSF and euro car parts sell copy parts. Bear in mind these arent close to the quality of genuine, and have a track record of failing.

I just bought air, fuel & pollen filter, NGK plugs for £37 from euro, oil is about £14, the rest of the cost is your time and the satisfaction of knowing its been done correctly, also a garage service rarely covers plugs
BOSCH Lambdas on fleabay for £45 - £75, no idea of the quality though.
cheers
