knocking noise when moving forward

hi all it doesnt happen all the time but i get like a knocking noise that gets louder as you accelerate more. not cv as it happens on a straight line too. like a metal on metal sound. any ideas?

can you position the sound on the engine? Could be a loose bolt on the suspension somewhere, or a buggered wishbone.

I had something that sounds similar and it turned out to be an inner cv joint (where it goes into the gearbox).

hmmm the sound comes and goes im trying to pinpoint the sound but its from the front. i want to take it to the garage but only when it makes the noise so I can show them.

im wondering if its the timing belt about to fail, thereby causing the timing to go awry and therefore the pistons and valves are colliding, thats the noise im hearing. what you think?
