Misfire on No.1 cylinder

2001 1.0 litre 65000miles plugs changed August 2008
The engine light came on this morning while my son was on his way to work.
The RAC plugged the computer in and established it was misfiring on No.1 cylinder.
I drove the car home 5 miles, and it seemed to be running slightly better than you would expect from continuous 3 cylinders.
Of the three items it might be ... coil pack, No. 1 lead or No.1 plug ... which do you think is most likely ... or is there something else it might be?
Do coil packs usually fail on more than one cylinder?
Thanks
Ray
